No to the air fed. Too dangerous by far. Its & twenty quid on a job that would have been more expensive with the big torch as i did them previously. The job itself it £2k so i will just have to live with the £20 eh?Those atmospheric torches are horribly inefficient. I guess like me you'll be looking at converting to forced air? Also for a big forge you ideally want masses of insulation, for your three burner you'd want a minimum of 2 inches and 4 inches of insulation wouldn't hurt either.
I'll be hunting around for decent blowers, possibly just an old hairdryer or two. In theory a forced air burner should produce a ton more heat with a lot less gas.
Practice is the answer. And also knowing how to fix errors if they occur (you only learn from making those errors)@Kent they have come out good.
I could probably have a go at making one, but to make any more and keep them all the same is a skill I don't have
One of what?could use one of these!
the big wooden box towards the back of the tent. It's our forge, powered by a large pair of double acting bellows. We can get close to 1600 degrees. It will easily melt sand into crude glass
Yes Parm, you read it correctly. That is indeed our Blacksmiths forge. It's made of two inch thick oak planks about 3'x3'. The heat is concentrated in a 8'' circle in the middle. Simple turf, grass side outwards.Depending on where we cut the turf, a sandy soil will produce the glass mentioned, A clay soil will bake to become pottery. And you don't want to line it with a peaty soil!! If you want to see it for real. We are at Bolsover castle, Last bank holiday of May

Not enough hours in the day as it is! Never mind making charcoal as well!Could you not make your own charcoal? As for the wool, the stuff sold in the uk is meant ot be stable but always advisable to seal it anyway
I can't get the video to work!
Even better, try this video.
