Induction heaters and blow lamps work fine but you have to heat the shoe then work it.
With a gas forge you heat one then put the next one in to heat up while you are hitting the first.
Takes half the time.
If you want to heat up the whole shoe i'd agree with you, but for just a section then the induction heater wins hands down over everything. You can easily make a stand to hold one piece in the coil while you work the other.
In this instance though another vote for charcoal and a something to hold it in.
