Used those for years at sea, excellent tool once you get used to adapting two hands into three, if you are going to use one, obviously use the S/S band and buckles, and always turn a strip of band back over the buckle to stop it coming loose.

That's a good price, the only criticism is the tool is end crimp only, side crimp is worth having. My two have side and end crimp. The only other thing is those crimps aren't quite as permanent as the complete loop ones but they are used on millions of cars.

Yes I have only ever seen double eared on gas pipe fittings, never really seen these single eared before.
There are a few variants of single ear, standard ones which are a complete loop with one ear, stepless are the same but they have an isert which spreads the load where the ear is and the ones in that kit are the autmotive type that can be demounted and reused with the correct tool(not the crimping tool)

They all have their place Sean, if the hose is a good tight fit under the clip prior to crimping the single ear are more than adequate, the original oetiker double ear clip has a bit more scope for obvious reasons .The pliers are nothing special when you see them in the flesh, you could dull off a pair of old side cutters or pincers to do the same job.

I know this may sound stupid Bob, but I have never used them before and didn't realise they had a circle in the middle, I thought they were just like carpenter pincers and you closed down gradually on each side till the clip was snug.

That hole is only there for clearance and visibility of crimped portion

Bottom right in the top photo are but the single ear ones came in an assortment box from the truck spares shop, not sure of the brand name .

Yeah, top ones are Knipex
Be aware that Knipex also do some that don't have side crimping and at first glance they look the same
