I started assembling the bench today after spending the last few evenings cleaning the shoes!

Any way can I just use 2K lacquer on the bare metal horse shoes to stop them rusting I kind of like the metal look

I usually just use a clear aerosol spray on my indoor horseshoe "creations" however I don't think it would be durable enough for outdoors etc, is there a clear epoxy that would be more long lasting and hardwearing?

I thought you meant a bench shaped like a horses shoe. I saw a cobblers bench many years ago shaped like a horseshoe, he had everything to hand.

    Me too.

I'd vote for waxing it and accepting the fact it'll rust. You can hit the bits you sit on once in a while with a knot wheel and rewax.

    Or paint it black!

    .Mine hasn't

But I did spend the time getting rid of any bio matter in the second hand shoes. Cleaning any slag of the welds after I stick welded them.
Removed any grease, including hand grease.

Then 4 or 5 coats of the Halfords clear stuff.
