Honda mower

Need a new recoil starter for my HR173 mower,eBay lists them with the regular GX prefix ,however I don’t know which engine is fitted,it’s small in size and a 17”cut.any ideas?

must be a mower repair shop near u......take it as a sample talk used or new.....Genuine Honda parts can be oh so expensive.......
have used some of the copy Honda recoil starters and frankly they r carp.....made of cheese "Gromit".........
better a used one than a new copy...

Honda Recoil springs break.
They can be bent back to shape.

As @angellonewolf asks, what's is wrong with it?

Its easier to run off the part numbers than the mower types, the part number on the search will throw up all the crossovers.

if its broken spring thay can be rebent and refitted

its a welding fourm normaly the 2 bits are there weld it ?

i just sold a hedge trimmer that i got 3 years ago because the spring was snaped i removed it normaly there is a hook and it most of the time it snaps very near there rebend it ive never had luckwith heating and bending it all ways snaps after going brittle just bend it slow make the same hook and refit

putting the spring back is not that hard just need 2 mins and 3 pairs of hands but doable

Rope broke ,so I’ll have a look for some cord,the “staff” alerted me,I just assumed the spring had snapped and on previous engines I’ve found the best long term fix was a replacement,albeit pattern. Thanks.

Pull cord is an easy job. make sure you wind the spring up though. They do different diameters of cord.

4mm is a good start point , but 2m of it as you use more than you think , about 2.50 delivered to your door
Steves Small Engine shop on you tube has some great videos ,, its a lot easier than you think it will be .

got miles of it here, which size is it you need, drop me a pm and I'll cut you a bit off and stick it in the post... I buy it on bigger reels far cheaper..

dont take there word for any thing get a juist of an idea go and look had a call from a mate to night had a bbq and cant turn the gas off only 0 mins down the road they been playing and turning muched up the mech i oulled off the plastic reset the switch and put back in the the levers in the right place took 20 mins total stayed for another 20 mins for beer
