homemade release fluid

dad made his own release agent, think he got mix from here.
nearly out of it and been through his notebooks but cant find it.
does anyone have instructions for making mix pls?

I recall something to do with acetone and atf transmission oil. Is that it?

Just found this suggesting vegetable oil and 30% acetone is more effective than WD40 (I know that's not saying much!)

Does'nt the acetone just evaporate off as soon as you get it on the formwork just leaving the vegetable oil...jeff..

We used NATO fluid in the 70's, made by Belzona, is it the same stuff?.

Yep thats it. I think these cans have some age about them, hopefully I will be able to get more when I run out.

I've just realised I got hold of the wrong endof the stick , you all where talking about a penitrating oil for rusty stuff.
I was talking about a releasing agent for concrete formwork ...doohhh...sorry jeff....

I find Plus Gas the best commercially available stuff but 50/50 Auto transmission fluid/acetone is best of all.

Belzona is a massive well respected industrial chemical company, some of their their chemical metal compounds make jb weld look like superglue from the pound shop performance wise.

When I'm running out of something, I just use some diesel thinned with whatever I can find on the shelf. Acetone, petrol etc, whatever it is evaporates out and leaves the diesel to lubricate and it seems to work pretty well.

Hmm.. got about 15 litres of petrol and diesel removed from a car which had an accidental filling error. Oil can purchase coming on!!!
Would adding ATF or acetone help?? Got some old ATF to dispose of as well.

Modern unleaded petrol is full of all sorts of nasty carcinogenic light hydrocarbons including benzine, it's also explosive. Use the contaminated fuel in an old car or dump it and get some paraffin to use as if you want to make your own release oil.
