Managed to get some EN8 bar 25mm dia, just a metre for £14, what I have not been able to get hold of at the moment is any 100 mm diameter bright steel, standard grade in the area to make a few rollers from, I will keep looking.
Also trying to keep this on a budget of next to nowt! I was struggling with a couple of bearings for the free rollers I was looking at some NKI35/30 bearings, as in roller bearings with inner sleeve, but apart from getting them from across the channel I was looking at over £80 for 4.
So I am going to see if I can cheat, I have picked up 10 sets of 6005-2RS budget bearings, 25mm bore 47mm outer diameter and 12mm width, the idea is to group 4 or 5 bearings on a shaft to take the load, at £1 each, a risk I am wiling to take. I am not sure what loads I will typically put on them.
Would some engineering plastics do for rollers or would black bar/flats rip them to pieces with the rough finish?

Brain wave or utter destruction
Can you use modified cut down & turned hubs & stub axles from a scrap yard for the fixed bearings & rollers as they wiil have a big flanges ( perhaps two flanges cut to fit one hub for the width ) , ready made taper roller adjustable bearings & a heck of a load shear strength ?
