Evening everyone. .
Guys how many of you have home made metal folders. I have been looking at lots of different ones on the Internet. Most of them will bend 1.5 mm at verious lengths. But I would like one to bend 3mm.they are available but at a serious price. I can source the materials and welding is not a problem. I would like to build something serious. If you have a home made one oils you post up some pictures so I can get some ideas. Cheers......

the thing i like the below for is you can stack angle iron to make the distance smaller

12 ton press brake

It Is capable of bending mild steel in the following length and thickness.

• 13.85" = Full bending width of the bottom die on anything 1/8" or thinner.
• 8" in 3/16"
• 6" in 1/4"
• 2.5" in 3/8"

20 ton press brake

It Is capable of bending mild steel in the following length and thickness.

• 19" = Full bending width of the bottom die on anything 3/16" or thinner.
• 15" in 1/4"
• 13" in 5/16"
• 11" in 3/8"
• 6" in 1/2"
• 3" in 5/8"

Thanks for the information. . I looking at bending 3mm with a max width of 500mm. I will need to build something very tough. ...but looking at others gives me some ideas.

You need a press brake of some sort................

Yes. I have looked at many different ones from different manufacturers. Wns tools do some nice ones.but most will do 1.5 mm and some at 2mm . I understand the the force needed to bend 3mm and hence the manufacturer price.

ROC stuff from WNS wont bend 3mm. You are looking at serious professional equipment, which is going to cost a fair amount of money even used.

Yes. 3mm is a totally different level of machine. Wns do a nice finger folder that will do 2.5. But over 5000 pound. I have managed to do most of my 3mm brackets in my vice and scoring a line then use thin cutting disc to cut a 1mm Grove and then bend.I ten tack weld the Grove back together. Time consuming and a lot of messing about.

For bending 3mm brackets a big old flypress would probably do the trick. For longer bends I would think making some tooling for a hydraulic press wide enough to take the job would work ok (as long as press is powerful enough).

Yes I have found an item that will fit a hydraulic press that will do just the trick. .

Thats the easiest way to do it, and a lot lot cheaper than a press brake!
