Bit brave. Wood lathe tool I've used freehand. Needs to make a holder really and choose a material less likely to snap small chunks off.

Not sure what the drama is, that little scraper he uses to smooth the radius? Looks like a small piece of HHS parting blade. I see no danger, Will Wobinson.

That video was released shortly after I got my lathe, I tried that technique but couldn't get a good finish like he did so gave up.

nothing wrong with that ive turned a few brass parts using some square bar in the topside sticking out parallel with the job as a tool rest and used a chisel same as a wood lathe. great for shaping

I doubt you’ll chip a Stanley knife blade by rubbing it on brass.

Snap em easy enough cutting wood mate. Their not strong when used in that orientation. Always snap off where the blade thins

You need a gentle touch, like the chess piece guy.

I’d never have the patience to spend hundreds of man hours making something as basic as a chess set like that one, unless someone commissioned it for big biccies.

Take a few minutes to grind up a small form tool. Bit of donkeysaw blade would fare better or just a bit of 6mm tool steel.
