Hole Punches

I need a new punch for making holes in 1MM steel for plug welding. I've currently got a set of these but they have a tendency to jam and the swivel head is a bit of a pain.

Despite their cost I quite like the look of these Beta ones but I thought I'd ask if any one had any other suggestions before I go spending.

If you don't have a compressor though, make sure they will actually punch 1mm easily by hand.

The agricultural type ( Frosts ) will.

I'm not sure about the Beta's though.

I have the same pair as yours, never had a problem with jamming unless I've been too bone idle to clear the die of punchings

Are the punch or die edges damaged or worn so that it is tending to bend the steel before cutting ?

Best check before you buy, ninety quid is a fair bit to pay for some grip strengtheners

if you click on the technical details it specifies 0.8mm maximum steel thickness.

I also have a set of the frost ones and they don't jam for me either.

I have a pair similar to those you posted (got them from frost) never had a problem with them.

Having said that if you have a lot to do i'd get the air ones!

What sort of a throat do you need on it? (How far into a sheet do you want to punch?)

Been around for decades. You can buy new punch tooling if it wears out (not that it will). You'll be amazed what you can punch with one.

Nice catch there, I'm glad I didn't order them straight off batt.

I don't know what it is about our hole punch but it does seem keen on jamming on every hole you make. I might tear them apart at lunch tomorrow and see if I can them running a bit smoother.

The air punch/jogglers have interested me for a while so I might see I can convince my brother to go halves on a set and see how they hold up. It would be nice to do all the holes in a Mini outer sill without felling like my hand was going to fall off.

Put a squirt of cutting oil on them now and then will probably help a bit.

though I bought mine in the uk via ebay, was about £30, not as easy as using the air one, but you can punch an 8mm hole

i've got one of those clarke ones snooper showed

works perfectly on replacement car panel gauge material (zintec sheet in my case) cant remember exact gauge but the punch handles it no probs
