hole in pool

Hello folks
My weld pools have small holes at the top of them, looks like a pin has been pushed in. Any ideas as to the cause ??

Usually lack of gas coverage or the metal is not clean.

Usually a gas problem. Has the problem crept in or is it a new job?

what gas it it? I've recently found a similar problem with a dodgy gas mix, N2 with CO2 (apparently).

its the gas. try putting your tourch closer to the workpiece. dont weld in in wind too.

Its only co2 guys, maybe its the problem, i guess argonshield is the way forward

Even with plain CO2 you shouldn't get porosity if you have complete gas coverage. Gas flow needs to be around 10 l/min and make sure there are no draughts blowing it away. If you are using disposable bottles, that usually means opening the regulator fully to get the required flow.

I had this same little pinhole/dimple thing - sorted with new shroud, shroud adaptor thing and new tip; must've been a gas-related problem due to the above bits being knacked/manky.
