I was meaning should I avoid the small Hobbyweld cylinders and go for a different supplier e.g. BOC and rent a larger cyclinder. The selling point for Hobbyweld is they are rent freeWhat's the alternative? TIG Welding without argon would be a waste of time. I have 2 SGS gases bottles, argon for tig and argon co2 for mig because at the time they were a little cheaper than Hobbyweld and much closer than my nearest Adams Gases. Call your local suppliers for prices.
Or are you refering to the tiny disposable bottles? If so they are a waste of time....
It will depend how much you use, as the deposit is returnable and rental is not, if it were me I would use a rental free option to see how much I use. As above 9L Hobbyweld is poor value due to low cylinder fill pressure, their 20L bottles are filled to 230 bar and worked out much better value when I last checked prices local to me, SGS was still slightly better at the time though, may be different for your local suppliers.I was meaning should I avoid the small Hobbyweld cylinders and go for a different supplier e.g. BOC and rent a larger cyclinder. Look at the big 300 bar bottles, or look at https://www.sgsgases.co.uk/Thanks for everyone’s input, much appreciated
hobbyweld is ok, not the cheapest but does the job. 9l bottles are way overpriced, 20l is much more realistic.
Not sure if Thomas Graham have the gas stuff sorted out with Gas Direct yet. They've been going through some real awful system troubles since Gas Direct took over Dixons (Dixons were the parent company of hobbyweld)
