Anyone know of tool insurance for hobbyist/car enthusiast ?
I have a few grands worth of professional type mechanics toosl, tool cabinests etc, Clarke engine crane, metal folder, various pro/garage 2/3ton type trolley jacks, mig welder, compressors etc, etc and the list goes on.
I've recently discovered my current insurers understanding of tools stored in a garage or outbuilding only covers tools that would normally be stored in a residential property and not tools associated with a specific trade or profession?
Every renewal I've always explained the type of tools and their value which I require cover for, and they've always assured me that as long as within the total agreed value it makes no difference, all of which has been confirmed in writing but always generalised by the use of the word "Tools."
I argue that gardening tools can be considered a specific trade or profession but regardless, in my insures opinion, mechanics tools to the extent I own would not normally be kept at a residential property and therefore not covered ?
I've been with my current Insurers for 15 years, purely due to the tool cover, which I believed was being provided.
Prior to using my current insurers, most content insurers I called would only provide tools cover upto a £1000.
I've recently called three home contents insurers and all have stated the max cover for garage/outbuildings contents is £1500 and I can also insure one individual item upto a £1000 or £1500, which doesn't quite cut it.
