See if you can match it with something here, those thermal switches are also used in electric showers,

so ill be looking for a NC switch, roughly what sort of internal temperatures do things like this cut out at anyone? cant find any decipherable rating on the switch (apart from possibly 75C - surely couldnt be that high?) will try and email to RS with all the info i have

Thats what I was thinking, Ive got a few of those at work, Ill have a look tomorrow , i'm sure they are marked with the opening temp.

seems very high to me, but what do i know! just noticed in miniscule writing on the back T177, do the Americans use Fahrenheit? that would work out at 80.5c (this thing would have been made in the states wouldn't it?)

getting somewhere with the RS site just realised the part numbers in the list are theirs not the manufacturers will have another trawl, cheers guys

It needs a circuit diagram, or trace it and see how it protects the machine, maybe it closes and pulls in a relay, could be nothing wrong with it.
Hook it up to a continuity tester and warm it up.

cant think why it would have been disconnected in the first place unless the original sensor went faulty and someone changed it for the wrong one, and just decided to bodge it

circuit diagram would definatly come in handy, although all the wires are colour/number coded so shouldn't be too difficult to trace where they go

will need to test it tomorrow now, i put the battery i borrowed for my meter back in the smoke alarm

if it is the correct one makes me think it over heated and they disconnected it. Trace the wiring

Heh, That is not 5.5mm but 7/32".

And yes, we use Fahrenheit here.

If so it still doesn't make sense, I would test that thermostat first __________________

there's a couple of words on the back that are that small iv been trying to decipher them for hours, just got it, Elmwood Ltd

im not very good with imperial, confuses me slightly

will test the sensor tomorrow first paul

I've never seen a normally open one of those , I think it should be closed until it overheats.
Many of them are rated at 100c, so one rated for 75c is cooler then most.
