That's where the Clicos come in to their own. I have F-Clamps in incremental sizes from about 9" to 24", and G clamps from 2" to 9", so can usually avoid it being too excessive. I can see that the vice grips would replace the G-Clamps neatly in a lot of cases. The F-clamp length can be an advantage though, used as a handle for leverage to tweak stuff into alignment.
