Agreed. I believe it’s actually illegal to supply 240v electrical goods new without a moulded plug now. Unless it’s commercial grade stuff above 13a and you fit your ownThat is not Hitachi that has put that on, they either come with a moulded on 3pin plug or Euro. Looks like whoever you got it from has chopped off a Euro plug and fitted a 3 pin.
Then the standards have dropped massively since production switched. I would be emailing Hitachi and asking if this was their usual standard and if so are they happy with it. I would also be in contact with trading standards to see what their take was on it.Well why is the grinder made in Malaysia and the plug made in Malaysia unless hitachi put it on the chances of that would be like winning the lotto.
I got the hitachi grinder replaced and upgraded to the best model that was recommended here, when I unboxed it the plug was badly put on which doesn’t effect me because it will be changed out for a blue 16 amp, as they don’t become unplugged when dragging the grinder round the place with a trailing lead but I hope the grinder is of better quality than the state of the plug installation.

I got it from my local place in a sealed hitachi box never opened that’s how it came there was actually tab stickers on the box so you would no if it was opened from the factory it was completely sealed I was the first man to open it since it was made.Where did you get it from? I assume it didn't arrive entirely in that condition as it has clearly been used.
Never seen any recent tool supplied without a moulded plug - but I have seen them supplied with a euro 2 pin moulded plug, and one of those crappy euro to uk adapters.
I'd put money that is what happened here, and somebody lopped it off and put a UK plug on, apparently badly.
I had the same deal - and yes the gearboxes sound awful.I think that’s the one I have. I got it with the a 4.5” one. My 9” isn’t broken and has had some abuse cutting concrete etc just gearbox sounds awful. The 4.5” sounded like the bearing were gone from new. I’ll be buying makita again when I need another.

“clearly been used “ it put in a good hard shift Saturday I took the pics in the evening, I didn’t bother fixing the plug because I’m changing it for a blue one
That was the company umbrella name iirc.
Checking.

Hitachi koki. Meshed the two together for the new name.
I still call em Hitachi regardless of the label.
The grease machine filling nozzle appears to need some adjustment.
Indeed, I'm getting a bit obsessed with this now.I'd call that 'token' grease.....
Anyone any idea how much grease should be around the gearing?

00 or 000 self levelling grease is good in gearboxesNot much. Just blob a bit on the gears & you're good. Don't pack the gearbox with grease.
That's a grey import right there!
Sack it off and get a metabo, they're lovely.
