Hissing gear stick

Ìm after a bit of advice. I have a 52 plate micra and it developed a hissing that's coming from the rear stick.

I suspect it's a damping issue between the gear stick and the remote linkage if anyone could shed any further light on this I would be most grateful.

The gears all select as they should and the noise remains when coasting in neutral

As you say, possibly a damping issue / sympathetic vibration, Just as a test try altering the mass of the stick with a lump of plasticine or some such around it. If that alters/cures it then investigate wear in friction washers/nylon cups in the linkage.
