Had to take a year off doing my car because of work, but finally got some time to get on with it
I've got two different jeeps here, both need new door cards, both use simple flat 2D door cards. My dad digitally scanned the old door cards using a digitiser at work, basically a big scanner that saves to DXF format which laser cutters can use.
Laser cutting is £54 is is pretty decent but the cost of materials is extra.
These jeeps are pretty crude finish so I don't need anything fancy but I also don't want metal door cards. I was thinking textured plastic, so the texture hides any scratches.
What the laser shop have offered me is:
6mm textured ABS plastic, £300 for an 8' x 4' sheet which should do both jeeps but is way more than I want to spend. Or HIPS plastic 2.5mm for £20 per door card.
I've googled what HIPS is, it's polystyrene. Anyone have experience with it and will it last better than the old vinyl covered hardboard door cards?
