Yeah. That's theft in my book. Unless they can prove that serial number is stolen they have no grounds to withhold your property.If you send gear to them for repair and the serial number doesn't match it doesn't come back.
We lost a drill that way that hadn't come direct from Hilti when it got back for service with a load of legit gear. The rep got us a free one to replace it otherwise he was going to loose a lot of trade!

I wish all off-road bikes had to be registered. Always nervous about registering a second hand bike. Could have been stolen 3 or 4 owners previouslytest meters are the same if reported stolen they have the serial numbers on record who purchased them so if u take them in you might get your collar felt. but if it dont come up stolen they should just fix it
