Not sure with the hikvision - but you can usually get a mounting base for most of those type of cameras, you just bolt on the camera and it gives you a nice place to hide all the cables and a gland entry for your cables.

It depends on which camera's they are but Hik do stand off mounts for most of their range!

At the camera end we can tuck them away in a deep base. The route the camera connection to the camera and then we have a rubber boot to for over it.

Not true. PoE introduces a DC bias onto (potentially) all the pairs, up to 57V if memory serves me for PoE+. The inherent isolation transformers means that any non PoE equipment simply doesn't see this DC bias also as its all differential signalling.

For PoE equipment they have circuitry the cable side of the transformer to tap off this power.

Oh yes it is true, go check the history of POE. An excerpt from the inventors (who I used to work for). Of course it has evolved over the years but it still remains the case that POE requires more than just the data pairs now the higher powered POE+ devices are around, which was my point about not being able to use splitters with POE.

And it’s not isolating transformers in the sense of 110v line speakers etc. They use resistors, or rather look for a specific resistance at the device to sense if the device requires POE or not before the port starts to deliver it. Where a port does deliver POE the Ethernet signals or frames are superimposed on the 48v since both port and device have agreed this by the existence of the resistance.

Cisco developed and first delivered a proprietary version of PoE in 2000, to enable scalable and manageable power delivery to Cisco IP-telephony handsets.

Emulating how traditional PSTN (public switched telephone network) landline phones operate--delivering 48V DC power over the same copper cabling used for communications--PoE initially took advantage of unused pairs of the four twisted pairs of copper wires found in typical Category 5 (Cat 5) cable.

In 1999, both the IEEE and the Ethernet Alliance started working to standardize PoE to ensure interoperability across a broader range of connected powered devices and power sourcing equipment. The first of these standards, IEEE 802.3af, was ratified in 2003 and specified that the power must be able to be carried by either spare pairs (pins 4 and 5 or pins 7 and 8) or data pairs (pins 1 and 2 or pins 3 and 6).

The standard also includes a mechanism to protect devices that do not support PoE: A 25-kW resistor is added between the power pairs on the powered device, and the power source provides power only if something close to that resistive value is detected
