I'm knee-deep in the donkey work getting the cables in for my CCTV system. I'm going to use Hikvision.

Can anyone recommend a decent UK seller who are also happy to give a bit of advice.

There's a very local one who would be/were ideal, but their customer service took a nose dive when their main man left.

Cctv-direct are also helpful.

Can usually "fabricate" a company to get a trade discount also

I think the two versions of green/orange positions is to cover crossovers. 568A?

You are correct, just follow the connections as listed for the B connection (the right hand column)so top left in your pic is 1 below that 2 and below that 5 with bottom left as 4.

It makes no difference in structured cabling installations provided you keep it the same both ends. We just punch them down in pairs, solid first then striped, which is the old standard.

Standard Ethernet only uses 2 pairs anyway which is why there are spare cores to deliver POE. You can even get doubler things, one each end of a structured cable, which will give you 2 cables in one. Can’t do POE with those things though.

For patch cords you have 2 standards, normal and crossover. 99% will be normal. Crossovers are only used when connecting an endpoint to another endpoint without a switch or hub in between. They just switch pins 2 and 6 (transmit and receive) for crossover.

Eurocom and pabx use pair split over center pair. Only time it would make a difference in application and would probably be labelled "com port" and not Cat 5 which should be kept in 100 base formation. As welderpaul documented.

Thanks for the guidance chaps. I bought them from Sat Secure in the end. Decent service, offered advice and everything turned up next day. Gear looks very nice quality.
Others tended to quote me on what they had in stock, or different brands, rather than those i had carefully selected.

I have many many sockets on the ends, i only need the RJ45 connection on the right. Can i just lop the others off? I don't have anywhere to poke them and i don't want the additional-depth back box.

I see you can get heat shrink caps so i can seal the cut ends up if needs be, although as they are now they are all open ended and terminals exposed to moisture as they are.

Agreed. We use a small plastic box as a termination point, which also looks more professional.
