I has numerous bow eye cleats fail on my boat due to mooring snatch loads. Replaced with a steel one and it was fine. Mind you that would have been high chromium stainless. I suspect a lesser grade would have been more ductile.
Tried some Screwfix A2 woodscrews once. Bought on clearance they should have come with a warning on the box "USE ONLY ONCE & NEVER ATTEMPT TO UNSCREW". Trying to unscrew just turned them into a non removable security screw.
Bought others from there and they've been spot on.
I've decided not to take that rout. when the time comes I buy a shorter shocks from hagons.
as for s/steel bolts its a no no.
