I guess it's ideal for cars that are modern (= no rusted fasteners you need to fight with) & popular (= demand for the parts)
Interesting that they don't want to pay for storage on "museum parts", its a sensible business choice to only stock items you know you can sell quickly but the obvious thing would be more storage = more parts you can keep in stock ready for sale.

BMW had a hand in a place like that in Sussex at least 25 years ago, I was given a tour round as part of a project I was working on in the industry. The Bird group had a similar set up near Stratford on Avon. The removed parts were all cleaned and boxed prior to sale - the police were a significant customer for body panels.

I have had a few bargains from Trent’s - they are so big they don’t recognise upgraded / non standard parts that a specialist breaker would, I bought a couple of Quaife diffs sold as standard diffs last year

Unfortunately it's just a reflection of the world we live in. Everyone's got to have the latest must have, to keep up with the neighbours. Whether that's the latest phone, a TV so big you can watch it from space to replace the one you could only see from the other side of the road, or a new car with a touchscreen display that's nearly as big as your TV, because pushing a switch or twiddling a knob is too hard.
It's difficult to stand out from the crown, with your old Nokia, black and white TV, and older car that your keeping on the road through a bit of routine maintenance and TLC. Not helped of course by the fact that 99% of the population have about as much desire to fix stuff or mechanical knowledge as I have the desire to take my my overalls off and go and spend Sunday morning staring at the other mindless sheep in Costa.
And until that changes, we'll keep on scrapping perfectly good stuff.
But on the plus side it means there's plenty of spare bits for those of us that want them.
None of which explains why used cars are still so blinking expensive.

Cars that are written of but repairable will be auctioned.
I don't see the issue a company strips cars to allow spares in the market to repair cars that are driving.
Would we all rather see the old crappy scrap yard where fluid is poorly dealt with and they won't deal with people easily?

A lot of cars are scrapped when they still have many years of life left in them, in other countries they would still be in daily use but legislation makes it uneconomic to fix warning lights etc
A good friend spent a few hundred pounds having the back axle of her very tidy Peugeot 206 replaced/restored. Before the next MOT she got an ABS warning light. Her garage knew which wheel was causing the fault but couldn't guarantee if it was a faulty sensor or a wiring fault etc. Friend was so fed up by then she gave the car away (she offered it to me as a freebie and I turned it down as I didn't want the hassle of trying to fix a fault on a complicated ABS system using my old school diagnostic equipment.)
I used to have a a very clean, tidy, well looked after BMW 325i folding hard-top from 2007
I scrapped it as the cruise control / ABS pump died. The car still worked great but I knew would fail the next MOT as it had a big red "Brake failure" light on the dash.
A working ABS pump (worn - will fail again sometime) wouldn't be too difficult to fit but it's coded to the car ECU so I'd still need to take it to a dealer / auto electrician.
A new pump from BMW would be around £2k then you have fitting & coding costs.
By that point I was so fed up with electrical faults making the car difficult (sometimes impossible) to drive that I decided to scrap it rather than pass the problems on to an unsuspecting buyer.
Both cars were scrapped because they had a light warning about an ABS fault.
It's not unknown for some warning lights to fail - sometimes you get a warning even if the system is working properly so maybe the only fault was with the warning light, but that's what will fail the MOT.
On a driving test (pre-ABS era), if I locked the wheel during my emergency braking it would be classed as a fail due to not being in control of the car.
All cars since 2004 have been equipped with ABS so if a driver is not in control of the car the automatic system takes over.
Cars are now being scrapped if a system that should never be needed stops working.
It's madness.
Sad that modern safety & environmental devices on a car are often the reason the car needs be scrapped a a new car created (with all the damage to the environment that causes)
Note the scale. Waste from driving is measured in metres of polluted air, all other stages of the cars life are measured in millions of cubic meters

Yeah that is impressive - but when you think about it - all the vehicles came in as non runners - ex accident - nothing is tested - nothing has a known history.
Spot of for panels and things that don't do anything - but the risk is still there - for parts that have functions.
I'm positive about it in general. Re using things sits well with me...

one i went to i used to get mk2 escort back axles complete for the stock cars 16 quid or 19 if they took them off and bought loads. the greedy gits just up road from me wanted 40 quid taken of yourself
they were last resort for everyone and were miserable take it or leave it attitude
