High quality easy-outs?

I have used several types of easy outs before; I have a set of each of the bargain basement ones that look like tapered screws, the ones with 4-faced tapered spirals and some AliExpress ones with a very short & wide thread (as photo below), the latter of which seem to bind best in stripped screw heads, but are made from metal only slightly harder than the screws you're to trying to remove.

Does anyone sell a set of this style that aren't made of cheese?!

The above style tends to expand the fastener, if the hole is very close to the bolts/studs core diameter or just snaps off leaving even more of a problem.

I prefer the spline type easy-out, new ones are about £150.00 a set from Snap-on...... But S/Hand come up every so often, this set appears to be all there even though the seller appears/seems to think bits are missing........ I'm not telling him different.....

Best I ever used was a tapered square with a relief cut as if to make a cutting edge, never failed

Over many years I could count on one hand the number of bolts that I have successfully extracted using any of these extractors, on smaller bolts I think I have had more success with left hand drills.

I have a few different sets The Ridgid tool Co ones with straight flutes are the best and most successful but the Snap on set I have are good but very expensive

why not weld a nut on , seems to work well

I've quite a few Britool ones. I think that I've only ever successfully managed to extract one bolt over the last 55 years of ownership.

Back on the good old days I drilled out many thousands of screws from aircraft panels using the spiral type extractor, and they almost never failed.

I'm going to caveat that though by saying that it was in the days before impact drivers, so they weren't really stuck, just a bit tight, or some idiot had rounded the head off, and they weren't rusty either.

These days if you can't get it out with an impact driver, the chances of getting it out with a screw extractor are pretty slim in my opinion and you might as well drill the head off, at which point the bit that remains will either come out with the mole grips or by welding a nut on.

If the bolt snapped whilst tightening you have a chance. If it snapped whilst undoing you have no chance.

Not over as many years as yourself but I too have only managed to extract one bolt with this type of tool.

Thoise are mainly for removeing C/sunk wood screws.
They are good for that.

The best set I got is the MAC Tools set.
They come with hole and stud huides, sqaure removers, I added the taper Left handed ones later and drills Bits.

Junk the drill bits and get good ones and them some Left handed bits.

Left handed drills and / or hammer in Torx bits and undo.

Left handed drills all day long. One place I worked we were issued a full set as they were so good for the task.
