After years of churning out bespoke Cd racks I looked at my stereo sat on a shelf in a corner, time to make myself something and broaden my product range.

A vast improvement over the last solution.
I even built in a cable and plug shelf underneath to hide the intestinal mess that goes with a seperates system.

Clarification needed here. The unit is rigidly mounted to the wall, and sounds better than when the units were just stacked up on top of each other.

Hi-Fi is one of my passions so I made the comment based on my experience.
Equipment stands need to be as rigid and acoustically dead as possible to prevent resonance and feedback colouring the sound.
The bar , I presume it's bar , that you have used for the frame will resonate quite easily due to it's small diameter and that will feedback into the equipment. Admittedly we are talking subtle nuances here and it depends on lots of variables , like how loud you play music , how good your ears are , etc , etc.

The rack I have my stuff on is box section filled with lead shot , fortunately sitting on a concrete floor using spikes which minimise acoustic coupling to the floor.

When I first starting using this rack I was quite surprised how much it improved clarity and detail , actually I intend to go even further with a heavier rack and more acoustically dead shelves.

This area of Hi-Fi is all a bit esoteric , but I've been into it for years and have been regularly surprised by what things can improve sound quality.

I had considered making something with more weight etc, by Wifey would probaby not appreciate it in the front room.
I wondered about using stone slabs and heavier frames but tough taters.
I was surprised that you could hear an improvement in the sound with something as simple as this.

Oh yeah , you'd be amazed at the lengths I sometimes have to resort to to hear some tracks at their best !! Standing on one leg , one hand on my head looking upwards at precisely 56.75 degrees for one peice, it's a 8u66er !!

I understand that one, there is a hotspot in the middle of my front room floor if I lie there when the speakers are so loud they are bleeding the drums in Slow riot for a newzero Kanada by Godspeedyoublsackemperor! make me laugh like a lunatic, albeit a drunk lunatic.

The new workshop, a huge wooden shed has great accoustics, you can hear the music perfectly 80 yards away with no distortion, it is like being inside a speaker. Great at least for me.

you havent got it wired into a crabtree unswitched socket fed by a 10mm cable back to a mem single distribution board fed with 50mm tails by any chance have u .a bit stupid when the feed tails from the mains cutout to meter are only 16mm thats wot a guy had me do for his sterio well at least tried u can only get 25mm tails into an mem board

LOL !! That makes me chuckle !! I haven't but a m8 , a wealthy m8 , had a dedicated mains feed installed for his Hi-Fi when he had his designer house built. So there were two mains inputs to the house , both seperately metered. He also had 3 phase in his garage the b4stard !! Well , three garages actually !! One was his woodwork shop , another his general workshop and the other for actually keeping his cars in !! Thing is , apart from when he got the equipment for the wood shop and workshop , the stuff has never been used , he has all these grand , creative notions but never actually does anything in them !! Pity I moved away from the North east where he lives , I'd never be out of his workshops !!
