Hi! New to Welding

Been recommended to the forum from another forum site.
Wandered about for a few days absorbing info and thought its time to say hello.

I've saved a few quid to invest in an R-Tech MIG180 but was recently been given a very little used (I think once) Clarke 150TE and fancied having a go at a few vehicle related projects. Got a few pieces of PPE to buy and to make some space in the man cave before taking the plunge.

I need some basics to get me going, so advice, tips and short cuts avoiding newbie errs would be gratefully welcomed. All the best, A8

Welcome aboard, @Activ8 As said ^^, this is a good place for advice/help - not just welding related but right across the spectrum - lots of knowledge here to be tapped into.

For the specifics of your post, do a forum search as folks' requirements when starting out have been the subject of many threads in the past. Some detail about the 'projects' would help the lads advise too.

Should I buy an Arc welder too? I was offered a "used once" Draper Expert 160A Arc welder this morning from my elderly neighbour for £45. I've just been given the Clarke MIG and tbh I don't know whether I actually need one but I'm a sucker for a deal / Justin Case scenarios. The Mrs is also keen to have a bash at welding so who knows how this new hobby will take us!

Should I buy one, I've done no research on here or else where so forgive my Newbie new tool excitement as I've no clue as to how an arc unit may help my welding future! TIA
