So, hello there. Absolute newb although I do confess to learning oxy when I was at college. (Does that make me bad?)

Been scanning this fine site for a while now and have to say it is full of great stuff and nice friendly people.

Mr. Weldequip, purveyor of fine goods and advice, has sold me a Portamig 181 . Happy about that, should arrive on Thursday with any luck.

Why learn to mig?? easy answer, VW!..
or to be specific a 1972 bay window camper. It's a well known fact that when they designed the early VW's it was part of the brief to make them rust. True!! honest , all part of a long term corporate plan. VW actually have majority shares in all welding equipment manafacturers!! So as you can clearly see there were some shrewd customers in office back in the day!

I will of course post some pictures and my first ever practise session, no matter how badly it goes

I had a 197x VW bug for a week (was then stolen). Was funny to sit in either the driver's or passenger seat and put your feet right on the ground. And this was in '84 when it was just 10-ish years old.

Nice that you've found us, we've been waiting for you so pull up a log, have a cup of tea and enjoy what goes on.

I've been fortunate enough to get a new Bay from Brazil just over a year ago. The VW rust philosophy still holds good but hoping to keep on top of it with the Waxoyl and whatever. Did have it undersealed on arrival and keep peering at it every now and then, so far quite encouraging.

I'd been looking for a Bay for sometime, prior to my retirement. When the pension fund did ever so much better than I imagined I used the lump sum for it, well, after paying off the Building Society

Fitting it out myself, slowly, and really want to use it for the odd night away when I go walking just so that I don't have to either sort out a B&B or worry about driving home when tired, plus it extends the choice of places to go.

yeah I know what you mean, we love just being able to go away to an event and camp over with minimal effort. Of course we have four of us in the bus at night..but the kids love it.

As you suggest, anyone with a nicely oiled brazillian in front of them is indeed a lucky man (Or Lady )
