Thanks Malcolm for producing such a useful site. I have just bought a SIP 130 Turbo to use on aluminium, so far the results (on 2mm sheet)are "variable" but not as bad as I thought - yet!.
I have some arc welding experience but am new to MIG.
Did you dive straight in on aluminium? That's very brave. My first try with aluminium was also very variable - I only ended up with a half decent weld using a brass heatsink to take the heat out.
For the Al I used 0.8mm wire, teflon liner and 0.8 tips - no jamming yet but I have noted your suggestion to use 1mm tips to avoid this. I also used a stainless steel block under the Al sheet to act as a heat sink.
I bet the next session will be a disaster, ha,ha.
