depends on the work you are going to do.
mig is good for bodywork, and easier to do than arc
if you are just doing the thicker chassis stuff though, and have no need for body repairs, then you could get away with an arc welder.
do yuo have any welding experience?

woz...are you by any chance selling high amp migs? lol, so far tonight youve told me to buy a bigger than 200 amp mig, and now suggested a 150amp mig too 
but yeah, i agree with woz, a mig will be bette, and easier than arc, and gives you a wider range of materials and thicknesess you can weld

i spent this morning mostly welding up holes in my exhaust
alot of overhead, while lying on my back with one arm jammed between me and the car holding the exhaust. not fun
if you can, get it up in the air or on its side so you have plenty of space and light to work with

the amount of time it takes bodging an exhaust on the vehicle is not worth it, it's much quicker to remove it and do it properly, they are always aqkward

Absolutely not, I just know from personal experience that buying the wrong machine based on the manufacturer's claims can be a costly mistake.

As you're looking to start up on your own you need to get the right machine at the get go, which is something I didn't do.
Spend your money wisely and get a machine you won't grow out of.
NEVER take the manufacturer's claimed thickness as gospel, it'll always be on the high side and yes, it may weld what they say but not for very long.
Back to this thread, a 150 amp mig is perfect for landy use, it will comfortably handle pretty much anything you will encounter and will also have that little bit of extra grunt for the odd bit of thicker stuff too.

i did plan on taking it all off and putting a new system in, but some retard has cut the mounting bolts from the chassis, and welded a bit of bar from the exhaust, straight to the chassis, so in the end i just decided to get under it and patch over the holes.
