Hi All, Great site & very much looking forward to speaking with You, sharing tips hints & advice. i love welding, im very new to all this, let me tell ya, IM COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY ADDICTED wish i'd have decided to learn the welding tradeyrs ago.
I know absolutely nothing about welding, so i phoned around local ereas randomly,& asked hey, i really wan to learn this great skill, please is there any chance You may just show me the basics as n whe You have the time, even just couple hrs a wk,...Guess what, a small business (welding-fabrication workshop)owner said thats fine, so im in 1-2 times per wk for couple hrs each, so far im learning how to mig weld, ive also had a go a stick wich i really enjoy but migs awesome too. im also going to shown how to tig, but tobe hoest i need o stick with the mig for now, i cant believe how i lucky i am really, anyhow look forward to speaking soon, Andy.

Thank You for the very warm welcome.
Ive only been there 3wks & loving it, looking very much forward to getting good hands on experience & hopefully a little guideance to, its only me there plus the boss, he's real busy, but is there if i need help, wich is evey 5mins at the moment haha. i have o much stuff on my mind in regards to what type of actual project i may undertake, i dont want to bite off more than i can chew though, so will think its best to keep it simple,
im really into gym equipment but would have to tread carefully in regards to keeping things simple, i have a gym machine (brought) stored at a relatives at the mo, so what im looking at is sometime nxt wk, is to take a couple pics see what You Guy's think in terms of easy enouph project to replicate or maybe give it a miss,
is fairly straight forward i.e. 2x2 & 3x3 box sectional steel tubing of around 3/4mm thick.
I have another machine (box sectional) wich im looking to use & measure up for my first project, Im eally really excited Guys sorry if seem a little O.T.T here, i feel like a kid in a toy/swet shop lol's.
Btter yet, i have use of spray paint for the undercoat plus the finish coat to so again im just well over the moon, im driving everyone crazy with my enthusiasm haha.

Oh another point i forgot to mention, Im left handed & the Boss is right handed, hes kinda from the old schol of learning, but i will just add, hes a smashing Guy, & i really do respect him in regards to the person he is for taking unpaid time out throughout the day to help me out wich im so greatfull for, Anyway, he feel that as hes right handed wants to teach me right handed also, and must say i am finding it a little alien, but today i did (suprisingly ) felt ok with it in regards to i feel i can go fouth & learn right handed, it may take a little longer but i guess being able to do two hands could be a bonus for unforseen awkward welding down the line, im not sure really, but i feel comfortable with it.Cheers Guys.

Hi Ducky. Thanks for the Warm Welcome. it was real lucky really as it was the fist or second place i had called up, its fairly local too say about 6-7mls,
ive even offerd the Guy money for use of mig reel gas/argon & general usage of equipment but hes adiment on taking no payment, wich i feel a bit awkward about was thinking of putting money in his hand but he might b offended, Cheers Ducky hope to speak again soon.Andy.

Actually that ain't a bad idea Norm. Cheers for that, May i ask dont mean to sound stupd here but as a none drinker i wouldnt have a clue as to wich is best, i.e. Bells or Jack D's. Any suggestions as a thnkYou Gift.

Well now, you could start a whole 20 page thread on which whiskey is the best and still not find the correct answer. I'd just buy a medium priced bottle of blended scotch whiskey which is a fairly safe bet and see how it's received, your local off licence should be able to point you in the right direction.

Ha, that's a grand drink, the Jameson! Did a little job for a guy once and was only going to charge him a tenner, and he gives me a bottle of Jameson Whiskey. First time I'd tried it, and it was better than a £20 note in the hand...

Hi All. I decided to go with the Jamesons irish whisky (tesco £16 700ml) So hopefully it will keep me in good stead here in there,Thanks Chaps Youve been Great on here, loads of advice & support, just hope i can be of some help too a litle later down the line.
Gandalf..Would there be noone locally near You say a welding-fab workshop or something, i have to travel i think its around 7-8mls but it really is a small investment for future plans, all i did ws look up welding businesses or even i was on the lookout for someone self employed, could even be someone semi retired/retired, just call them, im pretty sure someone will let You tag along even if its just couple hrs like me, only thing is though, is having the spare tim available, something i rally dont have much of, but a little sacrifice hear n there and ive managed to free up 4hrs twice per wk, i think i would be useless trying on my own, good if You can do it, i think maybe because i have a hard time absorbing info easy lol's, it takes me ages i have to go over & over things when im learning something new i.e. trade/skill.

I have people buy me drinks as thank you too. I never say I am T-total but it may be good to find out first if he drinks.

Cheers rkde. haha i guess that would have made sense, but already brought it, taking it in this coming tue, i'll soon find out, lols, i just didnt want to come across as a bit of a creep, but in fairness the Guys gone well out his way to help me, he really deserves pat on the back plus i feel its important giving credit whre credit is due and showing some sort of apprieciation, if it means a bottle even every wk it will be money well spent in my eyes, although i would feel much more at ease just paying for the matrials, but hes dead set otherwise so i just dont wan to turn up with my own stuff as it might cause offense,.
