Hi all and hope you don't mind me asking for help?

I want to weld 1.6mm and 2mm box section and will be buying a new welder and I have never welded!

Would this be ok?

clarke are good, I would suggest though a little more detail of what your welding /use of finished article etc , and any future plans of what you are wanting/hoping to weld to give the members a better overall picture of what to recomend . are you intending mig everything or occasional stick ? etc

I agree with the above, hopefully it'll all go so well that you'll be lining up more projects in the future for which a different machines may be more suitable.
Having said all that, the first welder I owned was a crappy little thing, not sure how I ever managed to stick two bits together.

Well I race a hayabusa kit car with a tubular space frame made from 25mmx25mmx1.6mm steel box section and have a need to add in some triangulation strength... So it will mainly be 25mm box section of 1.6mm - 2mm thickness. I will not be welding anything thicker really but just needs to be strong.

This looks like a nice hobby welder.
I am surprised that it needs 32A. I would have thought it would be fine with 16A or probably if not pushed to the limit even 13A.
Also I think the TIG capability would be limited.

Let me get this straight.
1. You've never welded.
2. Your first welds will be on a race car for strength & safety ?

At least get some scraps of the same material and practice on them first, make sure to test the welds by sectioning or breaking them.

for a first welder is there any reason why you want a multi welder ?

tig welding is different compared to mig welding

i prefer the 150 as i can weld up to 5mm steel and as low as 0.8mm with plenty of practice

whilst i prefer transformer based its heavy but will last longer than an inverter welder

I have loads to learn and lots to try before I do anything on my car :-) I just want to know the best mig welder for me to start with and then eventually to try modding the car :-)

That's more like it.
You would be surprised how many have come here (and other forums) and thinking "It's real easy, anyone can do it". And the first arc struck is on a car or motorcycle, something important, without any practice at all.
