No point asking us bill. with something like that it's worth what you want to pay for it. If you stick 200 notes in his hand and that thing is singing like a bird on AC, stable as a stone henge rock and you are happy then it's worth every penny.
You MUST try it out though as it could be a bad egg. A good member on here recently bought a quality murex/stel machine because the old massive AC box was simply hopeless at AC and he was telling me it made him doubt his own ability untill he got the murex. So you must be sure it's one you can work with.

You're right, it's worth what I want to pay for it, but it's also important to know what is appropriate for that type of equipment so I don't end up paying more than it's worth.
I won't buy without trying it (the exception would be if it was so cheap that I didn't care about losing it, which won't apply here).
I'm not really sure what I want to spend; actually, I do know... I've a fancy DC Tig I've no torch or argon for and never used, and want to have a go with. I also want to have a go at welding ally, mainly for the fact it's a handy skill to have, though of course it would come in handy for the odd repair.
Getting an AC tig setup would make getting the argon and torch more worthwhile, so I'll have to give it some thought, speak to the seller and if the price may be negotiable enough have a go.

It's either the most wonderful process to weld or the worst ever.
I personally love ac Tig and the Fronius makes it a joy to do. Not because it's an expensive machine and has a lot of gadgets but simply because the arc is stable from 5-200 amps. I'd sooner lose all the bells whistles and dingers over losing its super sharp arc.
Get some Alu plates and filler and spend a good bit of time seeing how you get on. If he wants the cash he will let you take your time. Don't stress about over paying or whether people say your over paying. Only you know what you can afford and what it's worth after you've struck it up. If you were paying £1000 for a second hand Rtech I'd say you were mad as they ain't far off that new. This thing is valued a little different.

Okay, I've dug this out. It's hurt to the point where it really is only fit for scrap. Powered it up, the contactor buzzes and rust dust comes out, the hf is dead. Inside the hermetically sealed hf unit it is all immaculate with a high voltage transformer, a high voltage capacitor and a few other discrete components. Looks like something from a 1950's x-Ray machine

That I really like, and I would think that for the money it'll go for it's probably great value.
Sadly, I'm about 150 miles away from it, and without a suitable vehicle to collect it. Nothing good ever seems to be local.

I should think they'll be fairly robust units that should last a few decades.
As I say though, it's just getting hold of such things that are local that's a challenge.

Another £40 and you can have a new Jasic complete with HF and a 5 year warranty!

Nowt wrong with a stout piece of chocolate black, tha knows. Saves brass. It's not from Yorkshire, but Stoke-on-Trent is close enough (slips into the shadows to put on tin hat).

These add on where around 45 years ago we used to call the set up a Christmas tree ,Contactor gas valve , rectifier box and Hf unit all linked up.
They worked Ok .
Used go into one place where they had an AC set up for ally welding had to stretch the coil in the HF box as the frequency was setting the telephones off.
But old hat now would buy a song and dance machine unless it was dirt cheap
