Hey,

I've just bought an ancient welder Sealy 180/1 (I'll attach a picture) and am begining my welding journey (complete beginner).
I got the welder for £30 at auction and figured I couldn't pass it up for that price!
This is a hobby for me, but i'd love to get into fabrication as I have some projects that I'd like to build.

I've been looking on the forum and have seen lots of useful information, so I've joined so that I can hopefully help anyone else learn from my mistakes.

My short-term goals are:

- Convert my welder to Euro Torch
- Learn to weld to a decent standard
- Learn how to plan my projects in Fusion 360

I've never heard of that one. I'll have a look at it. I used Tinkercad for 3D printing and it's the easiest tool i've ever used.
I'll let you know if I find an easy resource. I've been using the fusion in 30 days course so far, but I keep going off on tangents haha.

I think I'll definately join you on the Cardboard. Templates will be a must.
Well I bought it at auction without seeing it (I may live to regret it, but for £30...) and it's a lot rustier and more unloved than I thought it would be.
I figured if I need to change the liners in the future, I may as well just convert it to a euro torch and be done with it.
I'm looking at a kit like this:

Not sure if anyone has an experience with this kit. I've seen a few writeups on the forum about people doing this conversion and the consensus is that it's not too bad.

One important point to remember is that the new Euro socket, the wirefeed motor, and the whole spool of MIG wire are "live" with the positive of the DC welding voltage ( 15 to 30-ish volts ). Both sides of the welding output, positive and negative, are fully-floating and should not connect to the case, chassis, front panel, or AC mains earth. [ The "Earth" cable and clamp - the negative - is not earthed, it is the Work Return cable.] So allow adequate clearance and/or provide insulation where the new socket passes through the front panel of the welder.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, my ambition is to use Fusion 360, but my best mate always hypes up SketchUp as it's much easier to learn.
I figure, I'd be better off with short-term pain and long-term gain.
