Hex rivetnuts

I've had rivetnuts come loose on various things (not made / set by me) so am wary about them. However I've seen the hex type but despite searching can't find anything about installing them.
How do you create the hex hole ?

They are more of an OEM fitting. Land Rovers have the broached holes in the chassis for them.

You might be able to get a Q-max hole punch for them

If I think they are going to gave grief I tack them up

We use them a lot for jointing box section frames. The cheapy ones used to give us problems, but the heavy duty ones, pulled up with the heavy duty-version of the setting tool having been fine. I find they always need pulling up a little bit more than the setting on the tool.

I've read about tacking but some of my "project" ideas that could use them are alloy so I thought the hex type could be better.
