what did i do wrong not enough penitration??? i have a clarke180 en welder no gas on it yet could that be the problem. i made a v joint i dont know what else to do please help
To improve penetration slow the movement of the torch down and more side to side movement of the torch. As Shenion says cut it in halve and see how far you have gone through. Could do with a picture of the top of the weld aswell as underneath.
You are using solid wire without shielding gas? That's what the problem will be - would result in a big line of porous rust with no penetration. Doesn't look like gasless wire in the tacks.
well im using .35 flux wire i might have it to hot b/c the beaad is pretty tall so if i go slower it would be really tall i will weld some more tomarrow and post some pics thanks for the help
180 amps should be good enough to burn nicely into 6mm plate, i have never used flux cored wire only gas and solid wire. leave a 1mm gap or 1/16 inch, it might be your wire speed is wrong to much wire and it wont melt quick enough, to little wire and you wont be getting the amperage.
The majority of problems beginners have is setting the machine up right, wire speed for given power setting, i change the normal wire speed depnding on if im doing a butt or a fillet or a positional weld. once you master getting the wire speed right the rest comes easier
