Hello folks newbee here! Whats the best gas to use! Disposable bottles or the big air products ones? Where can i get parts for my snapmig 130 turbo? Also how old are these welders?any help much appreciated
Hi Skipo, welcome to the forum .
Disposables don't last very long and are quite expensive so you'll soon get frustrated (and skint). Better to find a cheap source of refillable cylinders, either a contract like air products or BOC or non-rental like adams gas or similar. You could also use pure CO2 which is a cheap and easily available gas though not as nice to use as a mix.
Edit: Weldequip on here sells spares for those Cebora machines, look him up in the members list and send him a PM
I once priced up the cost of the gas by volume/ pressure, being a grade III tightwad I wanted to now if I was wasting my wonga buying smal bottles versus renting a large one. It was either 10,000 or 100,000 times the price per unit of gas at STP, got my numbers a bit mangles but the number of noughts in wither case was enough for me.
How did I work it out? cant remember. something to do with volume of the cylinder and the pressure. if somebody wants to redo the maths I'd be interested.
cheers guys! dont know if this is the norm but when i plumbed the dissposable bottle up and started welding the bottle was empty after about half an hour? also whats the rental costs for the likes of air products as i have a large bottle but cant seem to get it filled?

I did do an excel model to work out the cost per metre and cost per volume for gas but can't remember where i put it!! But chunko is right there is a significant difference in the price per unit for disposables and rental!!
not sure but al check 2morow and get bak to u! cheers for the help! think am gonna stick with trying to get my big bottle filled till then al just have to use the arc ! will post picture of arc welder as not sure of make but its bloody big
not sure what make then if green would have probably been an oxford. Should be a great welder. learn on that then on MIG and you will find welding easier. If you learn on MIG it takes more time to pic up the others.
Funny u should say that as i have a sealy 180 turbo as well and i do find the arc to be easier to use apart from when i start to weld the rod always seems to stick! Should u heat the rods up before use ive heard this helps ?
Arc is good to start with as you get used to working the weld pool and proper prep. Also MIG can look good but be total poo where as ARC will make you work harder to get a nice looking weld. Have a look at snowcats albums for inspiration! Heating the rod helps as does keeping the rods dry.
