Help with wiring a y plan heating system.

I'm looking at the wiring diagram for a y plan heating system with a 3 way motorised valve.

Now, regarding the boiler connections, it just shows L N E for the boiler connection, but nothing for the call to heat.

I'd have thought the boiler would power with the system, then would fire when it gets a call to heat, bit by looking at the diagram, it looks as if it only powers up when the programmer or stat tells it to.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Correct. all the Y valve does is direct flow

Yeah, but what I mean is, the diagram shows L N E connections for the boiler, surely that's not the boiler supply connection, but the call to heat connection?

Some system boilers have a permanent live and a switched live, some only have a switched live. The demand starts with the clock or timer, goes through the thermostat (either room or cylinder ) then through the zone valve, the zone valve motors over physically making a microswitch inside the motorized head and putting a live to the boiler and the pump on the orange wire. What boiler is it and how many connections does it have on the terminal block.

Cheers guys, I haven't done heating systems for a while, and it's one of those things that are easy if you do them regularly.

Anyways, I gave the boiler a separate feed, removed the link in the boiler and connected the system into the switched live side of the link and presto! We have hot water!
