I am new to welding and trying to learn to puddle weld a new sill and floors in my MGB but have a problem:
I am practicing on a two pieces of 20 gauge metal and I have drilled 1/4" holes in the patch and am trying to puddle weld them together.
I have a Lincoln pro-mig 140 with a 75/25 gas mix. The case says to set the power setting on C with the wire speed at 3 which I did and I also tried B with the speed on 2 but the patch just pulls off when I am done. The hole gets red hot and the weld is puddled up but no penetration. I read a article on this and am doing as told by holding the tip in the middle of the hole to start the pool and then go out in circles as the hole fills.....no luck.
Am I doing somethig wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions
