help with pop rivet choice please

the back box hooks on my car have rusted bad enough to become weak

ive sussed out a small bracket to replace it , it fits to box section that i cant access inside

i think 2 rivets should do the job ...will be approx 4mm clamping thickness

what dia and material rivets are strongest ? any suggestions?

would those that peel open on the end be a good idea

i think i would go with at least 4mm rivets and maybe use a couple of stainless steel rivets aluminium will corrode just as steel will rust and as they are thin and hollow it would take that long to corrode. i dont think i would go with peel rivets they dont seem to get as tight a grip.

Give yourself approx 5mm extra once you know total thickness of matl to be joined together.

okay thanks...and if i spec'd a few mm too long it will still pull up okay?

havent had much luck with rivets in the past and want to be sure i get the right one

If a tad too big, take it easy pulling up the rivet, go for half pull till fully gripping matl, then final pull to snap off mandrel...........
