help with new welder (Clarke 151TE)

Have just ordered a clarke 151te mig. After reading the downloadable manual
it says

"Connect the mains lead, through a suitably fused isolator switch, to a 230 Volt (50Hz) electrical supply, with a 15Amp fuse rating. A standard 13 Amp plug MUST NOT be used with these welders"

what implications does this have when attaching it to my garage socket??

there is a thread about this already under the clarke section mate. personally i use a normal plug like alot of people in here and have never had any issues. (good quality plug changed yearly) dont panic you will be fine. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=14699

They are just covering their arses......obviously had a lot of problems with inexperienced people cranking it up and blowing fuses and taking them back!

I think covering their arses is the thing.

No idea why they persist in that one as the Clarke range of migs is fairly easy on power supplies and most members have found it possible to go about 150 amps output from a 13 amp plug.

The only worry for me is 13 amp plugs are sometimes poor quality. I think MK still make their plugs in the UK so they should be decent. I use them. It's still worth replacing the plug on a welder plug every couple of years - the fuse holder can get dirty after a while and start smelling like that train set you had as a kid.
