Help with my Clarke 100E

Hi, new here but hoping somebody might help me as my clarke 100E is driving me banana's
It keeps chewing the wire between the feed and the start of the liner (between roller and start of liner). What likely to be causing this, it does seem to get worse depending on what angles i hold torch and liner at and I wonder if the liner has got a bit stiff. I blew compressed air through it to see if that helps but hasnt really. The liner does seem to prefer to lie in the position it is in when i have it lightly coiled and stored away. Is this problem definetly the liner and what do I need to replace. Will a new teflon liner and a new swan neck and tip sort this. And where best to get them, machinemart list stuff will they fit my welder.

Really appreciate any advice on this has it is really annoying and mean I cant weld for more than a few second till it chews and I have to put the wire through again.

Hi,

had a similar problem with my old Clarke Pro90. Stripped the torch and found that the swan neck had a metal spiral liner that was full of dust (rust?) off the wire.

So I twanged that against the bench a couple of times, installed a new (main) liner and it was as good as new.

Does sound like it needs a simple service. New main liner, swan-neck liner and tip with a good clean should sort it out.

Hi, thanks for replies guys. am quite happy to buy new parts for it as to be honest its been great till recently and I need it to work perfectly as going to tackle new sills on my car soon and need to get it perfect as car is mint and very precious to me.

Who is Weldequip does he have a website that I can order from or direct contact.

I have had the same 5kg roll in for ages and to be honest it has surface rust and has probably dragged in up liner and swan neck. Am I best to replace liner, swan neck and tip. Also what is the difference between different liners, i.e. teflon, steel and plastic etc. I would have thought teflon would have been best but let us know what is actually best. I mostly weld car panels (is it right to assume i should be using 6mm wire, and should i chuck the lightly rusted roll that is in it away). Thanks for help guys

Hi,

Weldequip is a member of the forum so do a search for him, click on his name and you'll get an option to send a private message (PM).

If you're changing anything then it's probably better to change all of the parts at the same time. Weldequip will tell you the various prices and he'll beat places like Machine Mart on price and knowledge of the kit.

As for the rusted wire, if you run off the top few turns you'll eventually get to clean wire and you can carry on using it.

In the past I've fastened the end of the wire to the gatepost and run the drum up the drive and then run some emery up the length to clean it up when I was desperate! Then I re-coiled it on the drum...

Try to keep the wire in the house in a warm, dry place when you're not using it. It'll last much longer without going rusty.
