Hi,
Thanks to those who helped me get my second hand MIG set up last month. Since then I have been practicing on some 1mm sheet (I am learning to weld to restore my car) I can make nice runs in single sheet with good penetration, but when I try to butt weld it all goes to pot! I can weld two bits together and it seems strong (hammer test) but it looks so bad! blobs, holes etc. Can some one tell me where I might be going wrong?
Also a couple of questions...
1. How much gap should I leave between the sheets I am welding together. At the moment I get them as cloase as I can, is this correct?
2. I have real trouble finding the start point for the torch. By this I mean I can't see a thing with the mask down and when I am welding its not easy to see what I am doing. Is this just something to get used to or should I be looking at an auto helmet?
Cheers all
Graham
