Hi
First post and new to welding so please go easy......
Just learning to tig weld and have been on a couple of one day sessions at a local tech college. Welding hotrod chassis so want to do a decent job.
I've got a lincoln invertec v160 that I tried to set up at the college yesterday, and having trouble. I think the torch is knackered as it sometimes struggles to acknowledge that the trigger has been pressed, but once it does start up in hf, it steps down itself after maybe 10 seconds. Welding instructor seemed to think it was the machine rather than just the torch.
Flicked it onto stick and it worked fine. Also seemed to step down on lift. The machine was very slightly used when I got it - the guy used it for occasional repairs while at the race track, and said he'd only used it half a dozen times, hence selling.
Can anyone help me with the settings for this machine? Want to be able to know that the settings are right for a standard hf start, non pulsing with slope out and 2 step trigger operation. Once I know what I am doing, I can always get fancier but just want the basics to practice before I wreck a chassis.....manual also mentions some micro switches inside for customisation, but all a bit beyond me.
Apologies for sounding thick, but have tried to fathom the user manual, but as a raw beginner, it's a bit confusing.
Alternatively, does this sound like a fault with the machine, and if so, anyone know where I can take it in or around Manchester?
Eternally grateful for any help as its getting right on my nerves!!
Cheers
Kelvin
