help with filler over mig weld

Watching a few videos on youtube some guys recommend using a fibreglass filler first over the weld before a layer of normal filler, my XK8 rear wing will be my first attempt at this so would appreciate your feedback.

I was planning to use P40 then P38 as it is the easiest to get hold of.

Hello RD,

personally I see no point in the P40, given a reasonable welded join? P40 is designed to bridge holes.

they are doing this because of pin holes in their welds and the fibreglass gives more protection over standard filler, it just prolongs failure it doesn't cure it

If that's the reason you can use fibre glass resin (with hardener) or epoxy primer.

yeah its incase of any pinholes ...could epoxy primer it too

I will be able get limited access to the inner wing after welding and planned to paint it with Jotuns or Rustbuster epoxy mastic.

Any suggestions for a filler I can buy in reasonably small quantities?

I plan to cut off this section on both sides of the car and re-skin with the donors I have.
