That's a SIII front on it. Definitely not right.

Thats how winch boy managed to buy it, it went cheap as it have quite a few wrong year bits on it and it has a Mercedes 3L 5 pot diesel engine, so whilst the rivet counters will hate it its right up winchboys street as it should do double to the gallon

In our dreams its a very old OM617 we think its very early 70's
Its a very slow plodder but plenty of torque and frugal on fuel

to be honest, i dont really understand what the end goal is. its never going to be original with the merc motor in, you might as well leave the sIII wings on as they look in half decent shape. save the money itll cost you for an original sII grille and front panel and spend it on something like a set of 3.54 diffs

not only that, but have you actually put any miles on it? id be seeing what falls off during driving before you start worrying about cosmetics

He just wants it looking originalish, he can't afford a proper one so its all about compromise

get some miles on it first and then worry about what it looks like, otherwise youre going to have a original looking ornament when he/you cant afford the gearbox/transfer box/ diffs/ halfshafts/ new engine it needs

Thats what I thought but I can't remember why but something made us think it was very early? Possibly stacked head light one?

the engine was up to the 90’s models too 300d

a11r have you any spares? Air filter and throttle linkages are missing from ours.
I seem to remember the oil filter style dated it very early, the engine has this plate on it so its been a service exchange at some time

Mid 80s to mid 90s MBs used the OM602 / 603 engine, before the multivalve OM605 / 606 came in.

Late 80s to mid 90s MBs used the OM602 / 603 engine

Mercedes made the 617 from 1974 fitted in the W115 ( Stacked headlight) up until 1991, later ones usually have a turbo.
It wa fitted to cars, vans and possibly Unimogs, I am told they have a massive following aboard as they are very robust

Ours is missing and is bodges with alldorts of rubbish I am not convinced it has full travel? A pic would be good incase we ever get around to fixing it, no hurry though. My Daughter would love your Mercy she is obsessed by the older models
