Help with a clutch please :)

Hi all hoping for some advice please
I have a mate who is looking to sell his daughters Daewoo tacuma. I am thinking of buying it for my wife.
The problem is the clutch failed on it.
We have tried replacing the clutch with a new one. Every time we tighten down the bolts that hold the pressure plate in place it pulls all the springs in too. Then when the gearbox is refitted there is no spring to push the release bearing back.
This is the second clutch to do the same as we had a borg and beck which we assumed was the wrong one we now have a blueprint valeo which is doing the same aarrgghhh

Me and my mate are both good with this sort of thing normally and recently did a landrover discovery clutch which was fine.

Please help

Yes the one side says flywheel side on it

i take it by pulling the springs in at the same time your bolting it up your talking about the pressure plate fingers?not the dampening springs on the friction plate??
p.s just because it says flywheel side it may have been marked up wrong,or look carefully might say 'away from flywheel'or the like
you got the old one still put all parts side by side and check them...

Yes pressure plate fingers

We put the old knackered clucth back in and it was ok??
From flywheel housing to pressure fingers with old kit is 3 inches
with new kit it's 2 and a quarter inch
Measuring from the bell housing to release bearing is 2 and a quarter inch and the bearing moves about 3 quarters of an inch.

cant be the correct clutch kit for that engine/model engine size etc.i take it it has a solid flywheel (and not duel mass) going by the friction plate haveing dampening springs?

Well we got the clutch from local motor factors borg & beck gave them reg number and thats the one to fit supposedly.
We thought the same that it was faulty or wrong one they swapped it free of charge for a blueprint valeo kit which does exactly the same.

I went on euro car parts website put in reg number and they gave same part number so we are pretty stumped.

is the pressure plate the same depth as the old one that came out,or has someone in the pass changed the engine/g box from what it was fitted with at factory?

Pressure plate looks the same depth as far as I know its the original engine

Can you explain what this bit means please, I don't understand it. Is the friction plate central and does anything interfere with the diaphragm spring ?

When you tighten down the pressure plate the spring/fingers pull inwards.
I think they are pulling in too far but dont know why?
We are using a clutch alignment tool as well

Is the blueprint adl kit identical to the borg and beck? What make is original plate and cover?

Parts books are not absolute. I had ALOT of trouble with a vectra clutch once. Two different brands turned out to be the same parts in a different coloured box, and only when I got an LUK (as per original fitment) was the problem resolved. Had parts people asking me if I had fitted it correctly - all very time consuming, ended up doing the job twice.

Same with a polo outer cv joint, 3 local parts factors said the one they had listed was correct for car. I knew by this point that it wasn't, only Eurocarparts had the correct item.

Have you tried mixing and matching new friction with old cover to see what happens then? Pin it down to friction or cover.

I agree with Andy, it could still be the wrong one. Got a fuel filter for my car at a local motor factors no way would it fit, tried eurocars and the Bosch one they gave fitted.

The original was valeo kit which is what the new blueprint is as well.
Eurocarparts show 4 different clutch kits available 1 of then being a valeo which is also the most expensive

Sorry to butt in, i am a little confused by this thread.. are you saying here that its the clutch friction disc that is different from the old to the new one and that the pressure plate (with the fingers) is the part thats fitting correctly?

The kit we have has part numbers which tally with the car ADG03044 is on outside of box.
ADG03136 is on inner box for the disc
ADG03221N on the bag the pressure plate was in

I would say the new friction plate is the problem then. Must have a different offset somewhere. They don't wear by enough to account for a difference of 3/4" at the release fingers.

Thats my thinking too but I will say they look identical to the naked eye lol
