Help to start Tig welding

Hi , i looking to start tig welding i live in dartford kent , looking for advice , help in chossing the right welder ect. Ill pay for your time , consumables. Im a BMW master bike tech so if you have a BMW bike or other bike may be we can help each other ect ect. I will travel can only do weekends but if local evenings. I wont waste your time .

What are you mainly looking to weld, steel or alu?

Learning to tig. Weld

Hello I'm looking to weld steel and Ali , my budget for a welder is about £700 ish , if I can find help and they own a motorbike then we can defently help each other , if not I will gladly pay for there time

Right, you'll need an AC/DC welder which means your budget is a bit too low. The best you'll get at that sort of money is an R-tech 160A one but it'll set you back £700 for the machine alone. You'll also be limited to welding thinner stuff with it.
What sort of thicknesses were you looking to weld?

Many thanks for your reply , im aiming to fabricate exhaust pipes and general fabrication . I think im trying to run before i can walk with regard to welding aluiminium. Maybe once i have got my head around welding steel i can consider looking at welding aluminium.

Have you done any welding before? If you're half good at learning new things, and happy to put some practice time in, it is feasible to do what you're talking about. I'd done a small bit of gas welding, a small bit of stick and a bit more MIG before I went to TIG, and have done a few steel and couple of aluminium projects.

Welding aluminium, with the right welder, is mostly just different and only a little harder than steel.
