Help sourcing steel tube please

Hi,

As langy has said the threaded insert you are after are not normally made out of square bar. The wishbones and bits and bobs are normally made out of round tube. I know because i have made them in batches for various business in that sector. The ones i have made in the past use 1/2" and 7/16" unf threads, i think that is the standard used in the main.

No reason why they cant be made in square if that's what you need. I might have some in round knocking about in my works if its any use to you, i will have to check.


Edit: I should add these are for road going kit cars not a home build buggy, so may not be the same thing you are after.

A gap in the market perhaps? Round tube would be much better and I have seen the threaded bungs you mention, unfortunately I really don't have the tools to start mitreing round tube. I think I'll go with my idea of using square stock, drilled and tapped and then pool welded through a hole on each side into the tube. Although this does seem a bit complicated

EDIT - Thanks Scott, you must have posted while I was typing this. All I need are 4 inserts maybe an inch long to fit inside 25mm square tube. The rose joints will then screw into them to support the hub assembly. I was going to use M10 rose joints but anything around that size is fine.
