So i had a gearbox to replace in a boat last weekend due to a fairly common issue with that particular set up,
The gearbox itself is fine, (normally, although this one may have missed an oil change or 3 so the bearings are in pretty poor shape!) the issue is the pto drive for the hydraulic pump gives up.
Apparently the coupling is an interference fit, and sweated on to the shaft, but over time this gives up and it spins (or doesnt spin i guess!)
Im really struggling to get the damn thing off though!!
I have tried some heat with a plumbing torch, but maybe i need to get a bit more brutal and use the big oxy/prop torch, was then trying to use a bearing puller.
I am hoping just to remove it so i can figure out if there was any possibility of drilling and pining it on, ideally without having to remove the gearbox from the boat!
Hopefully some pictures will help me make sense!
Im pretty sure i can see a seem a few mm down from the larger diameter of the coupling, maybe i just need to get the coupling much hotter, as in cherry red, and then try the bearing puller again!
I did manage to find a workshop manual for the gearbox, but it says nothing about this coupling, just skips over it and says about removing the bearings!
any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
cheers
