No problem. The book is cheap and worth purchasing. Thanks @6ply - it has a centrifugal switch, and a capacitor - so good there.
Just a few snapped wires I want to ensure go in the correct place.

My only complaint with the workshop series books (I have a couple) is the print is tiny, and I can only read it in really good lightNo problem. The book is cheap and worth purchasing.
Reverse either coil...and caution was well founded...
I managed to find a few minutes this afternoon...
Screwed the motor back to the original mounting plate.. found the screws/nuts to mount it all on the drill.. Hooray.
Realised I hadn't thought about a switch (Oops) so just plugged it in to a socket to check it all still works.
Nearly hit by pieces of well perished drive belt.... but wait - what is this unique machine - it's custom made for removing broken screws/bolts using left hand drill bits - as it's running anti-clockwise
I know it's theoretically just a case of swapping the terminals for the starter coil, but as there was a lot of soldering in the motor to get it to this point, it's back on the work bench for some remedial action....
Reverse either coil.
Help!Haha yeah, methinks you have the coils wired in opposition...
Help!
Wired again- runs nicely- backwards. How do I make it run the other way- I thought it was to switch one of the coils around?
The motor won't care which is live and which is neutral. Is it as simple as switching live and neutral?
Yes, just the one, Mrs. Wembley...Help!

So I would start with the configuration that runs without any smoke or arcing,
